Who We Are
King Avenue Church Learning Extension Center (LEC) is an outgrowth of a long-standing partnership between King Avenue United Methodist Church and Hubbard Elementary School. Most years, the partnership takes the form of King Avenue members who serve as weekly tutors in the school along with financial and other forms of support. During the current pandemic, Columbus City Schools reached out to churches and other nonprofits to open their doors to support remote learning by becoming a Learning Extension Center. King Avenue Church stepped up to help children and families during this stressful time.
What We Do
The King Avenue Church LEC is a safe environment for a child to access the internet in order to participate in remote learning. Caring adult volunteers will help children observe health protocols, assist with technology, and address schoolwork questions. Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are included. This LEC is open to students of the Columbus City Schools who are in grades 1-6. Children and volunteers alike are required to wear a mask at all times.
