As you share on your different platforms and/or different days, you'll keep track of the number of posts.   You'll self-report your hours weekly based on a simple rate of 10 minutes per post.*

We're new to this, too, so we'd love to have your feedback on the process and how we can make it better!

Have Fun & Volunteer at the Same Time!

 

The First Aid Services Team (FAST) provides immediate first aid to participants at such things as sporting events, concerts, festivals, local fairs, etc. Volunteer and help others when they are in need while you enjoy getting to be a part of many different community events. This position also offers volunteers a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment while building confidence, leadership skills, teamwork skills and a chance to network with professionals in the medical community.

 

Responsibilities:

Providing first aid at community events Provide emergency care only within the level of your American Red Cross training Respond quickly to emergencies Follow directions given by FAST Station Leader and paid staff Work in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services personnel Provide outstanding customer service Properly complete FAST records and reports Follow FAST guidelines as established by the American Red Cross-National Headquarters Represent that Red Cross in a professional manner at all times

 

 

Qualifications:

Complete Introduction to FAST Orientation Complete all FAST required training and maintain certifications  Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly Flexible and adaptable Able to communicate clearly Able to give and take instructions Ability to lift at least 50 pounds (using proper lifting technique) Willingness and ability to learn and use Red Cross technology and reporting platforms Must have reliable transportation to events Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time Must be able to work in all weather conditions

 

Training/certifications are provided at no cost.  This position requires that you volunteer at 12 events per year. Please note that most events are in Franklin County but volunteers from all surrounding counties are welcome to join in!

The First Aid Services Team (FAST) provides immediate first aid to participants at such things as sporting events, concerts, festivals, local fairs, etc. Volunteer and help others when they are in need while you enjoy getting to be a part of many different community events. This position also offers volunteers a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment while building confidence, leadership skills, teamwork skills and a chance to network with professionals in the medical community.

 

Responsibilities:

Providing first aid at community events Provide emergency care only within the level of your American Red Cross training Respond quickly to emergencies Follow directions given by FAST Station Leader and paid staff Work in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services personnel Provide outstanding customer service Properly complete FAST records and reports Follow FAST guidelines as established by the American Red Cross-National Headquarters Represent that Red Cross in a professional manner at all times

 

 

Qualifications:

Complete Introduction to FAST Orientation Complete all FAST required training and maintain certifications  Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly Flexible and adaptable Able to communicate clearly Able to give and take instructions Ability to lift at least 50 pounds (using proper lifting technique) Willingness and ability to learn and use Red Cross technology and reporting platforms Must have reliable transportation to events Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time Must be able to work in all weather conditions

By helping to raise their technological literacy, you'd be helping them to make everyday living that much easier. Moreover, you'd be ensuring that they could stay connected with their friends, family, and our community. Staying connected is fundamental to maintaining meaningful relationships, which in turn prevents isolation and ensures better mental health. 

So, if you're someone who enjoys using technology while helping to make a difference in your community, then this volunteer opportunity is for you! Not only will you get the satisfaction of making a difference by ensuring an older adult stays connected, but the satisfaction of friendship as well. That's because you'll have the opportunity to get to know whom you're helping!

Volunteer: Provide Handy Help to an Older Adult

Volunteer with Village in the Ville to help aging adults in the Clintonville, Beechwold, and University District areas maintain their homes.

Village in the Ville provides support to older adults hoping to stay in their homes and remain connected to community as they age. One of the major ways we support older adults is by helping them with minor home projects like changing light bulbs, hanging a picture, rearranging furniture, or fixing a screen on a window. These small tasks make a BIG impact and provide a fun way to interact with an older neighbor. 

If you have the skills in your 'toolbox' (and an actual toolbox to boot!), we would love to have you as a volunteer to answer the call of an older adult who needs help at home.  By sharing your handy skills, you'd be helping to ensure that our aging neighbors can stay in their homes for as long as possible. And not only will you get the satisfaction of making a difference by ensuring an older adult can stay in their home for as long as possible, but also the satisfaction of friendship as well. That's because you'll have the opportunity to get to know those whom you're helping!

Village in the Ville provides support to older adults hoping to stay in their homes and remain connected to community as they age. One of the major ways we support older adults is by helping them with minor home projects like changing light bulbs, hanging a picture, rearranging furniture, or fixing a screen on a window. These small tasks make a BIG impact and provide a fun way to interact with an older neighbor. 

If you have the skills in your 'toolbox' (and an actual toolbox to boot!), we would love to have you as a volunteer to answer the call of an older adult who needs help at home.  By sharing your handy skills, you'd be helping to ensure that our aging neighbors can stay in their homes for as long as possible. And not only will you get the satisfaction of making a difference by ensuring an older adult can stay in their home for as long as possible, but also the satisfaction of friendship as well. That's because you'll have the opportunity to get to know those whom you're helping!

So, please don't underestimate the value of providing a service that's as simple as lending a ride.

If you're someone who enjoys going for drives while helping to make a difference in your community, then this opportunity is for you! Not only will you get the satisfaction of making a difference by ensuring an older adult has safe access to our community, but the satisfaction of friendship as well. That's because you'll have the opportunity to get to know those to whom you're lending a ride!

To become a community driver, all you need is:

A Valid Driver's License Proof of Driver's Insurance To Be at Least 25 Years Old

Once you've become a community driver, you'll have access to our volunteer portal, where you can sign up to give rides to older adults in the Clintonville, Beechwold, and University District areas. And for every mile you drive, we'll reimburse you $0.56. Or, if you'd prefer, you can use one of our vehicles instead! Incidentally, if anything were to happen on your drive, you'd be protected under our insurance plan.

Trips usually take 1 to 3 hours. Though, you don't have to stay for the whole time. You can always drop off and pick up, running your own errands in the meantime.

Covid-19 has made lending and receiving rides especially complicated. We recognize this and wish to value the safety of our drivers and riders while also honoring the needs of our riders to attend medical appointments, get groceries, etc. That is why we ask that our riders and drivers wear masks and social distance whenever possible during the service. Of course, if you don't feel comfortable, we have other volunteer opportunities available.

Volunteer: NSI Food Pantry Assistant

Volunteers needed to help pre-pack boxes of food, stock shelves, receive deliveries, sort donations, greet customers and more. We encourage a vibrant, diverse mix of volunteers – from college students to retirees – there is a job for everyone! Help us provide a 5-day supply of emergency food to up to 80 of your Central, Ohio neighbors per day.

Our pantry is open Monday – Friday from 10 am – 1 pm. Can’t work the whole shift, but still want to help out for a little while? No problem! Feel free to sign up for a shift, then send an email to Lindsay Barber at lbarber@neighborhoodservicesinc.org to let us know that you will be arriving late or leaving early. Any time you have to spare is helpful!

By shoveling their sidewalks, driveways, and steps, you're helping to ensure that our aging neighbors will have safe access to our community. Ensuring safe accessibility to our community is fundamental for ensuring that our older neighbors can age in place - that is, in their home and in our community - for as long as possible. So, please don't underestimate the value of providing a service that's as simple as shoveling some snow.

Once you sign up to shovel snow, you'll be matched with an older adult from the Clintonville, Beechwold, or University District area. (We try out best to match our volunteers with an older adult that lives close to them.) Once matched, we ask that our volunteers reach out to their matches whenever it snows (more than two inches) to see if and when they might need their driveway, sidewalk, and stairs shoveled.

We all know that winter in Ohio is no walk in the park. Snow and frigid temperatures are common from November all the way through March. By taking the time to create these thick fleece blankets, you can help keep someone warm this winter.

One of the major ways we support older adults is by helping them to maintain the outsides of their homes, through yard work, leaf raking, gardening, and more. This is a fun way to interact with an older neighbor and offer a very helpful service. Bring along friends or family and make it a social activity as well! 

Volunteers may sign-up individually or as a small group. Once volunteers sign-up, an email with the address of an older adult that needs assistance and an outline of tasks will be sent. Tasks may include weeding, raking, moving patio furniture or other large items, clearing yard waste and other similar tasks. Timing is flexible, but volunteers should plan to set aside 2-3 hours for volunteering. Prior to the volunteer date, Village staff will make sure all tools and necessary yard waste bags are at the older adult's home. 

We ask that all volunteers remain outside of the older adult's home.

Volunteer: Host a Game Day Drive For Individuals with Disabilities

Help Individuals with Disabilities Gain Independence

Goodwill helps more than 70 individuals with developmental disabilities live independently in 40 Supported Living households throughout central Ohio. Due to COVID-19, many of these individuals are looking for activities they can do at home to remain safe from the virus.

This "Service at Home Opportunity" is for volunteers to collect and donate activities and games for these individuals to work on self-direction and greater independence skills. Items that work to increase sensory integration (like Play Doh, bubbles, sand, slime, crafts), exercise and movement (low impact yard sports like bocce, soccer, basketball, t-ball) and spatial and color integration (like puzzles, adult coloring books) would all be useful in helping these individuals with their individual service plans.

Help Individuals with Disabilities Gain Independence

Goodwill helps more than 70 individuals with developmental disabilities live independently in 40 Supported Living households throughout central Ohio. Due to COVID-19, many of these individuals are looking for activities they can do at home to remain safe from the virus.

This "Service at Home Opportunity" is for volunteers to collect and donate activities and games for these individuals to work on self-direction and greater independence skills. Items that work to increase sensory integration (like Play Doh, bubbles, sand, slime, crafts), exercise and movement (low impact yard sports like bocce, soccer, basketball, t-ball) and spatial and color integration (like puzzles, adult coloring books) would all be useful in helping these individuals with their individual service plans.

Cut fabric 9.5" by 6.5" for an adult or 7.5" by 5" for a child. Be sure any fabric design is placed horizontally Put right sides of fabric together Starting at the center of the bottom edge, sew to the first corner and stop. Sew the elastic with the edge out into the corner. A few stitches forward and back will hold this. Sew to the next corner, stop, and bring the other end of the same elastic to the corner and sew a few stitches forward and back. Sew across that top of the mask to the next corner. Again, put an elastic with the edge out. Sew to the next corner and sew in the other end of the same elastic. Sew across the bottom leaving about 1.5” to 2” open. Stop, cut the thread. SPECIAL PRO BONO PROGRAMMING LAUNCHED TO ADDRESS LEGAL NEEDS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC:

 

To ensure that low-income individuals can still access legal help and advice during the COVID-19 crisis, the Legal Aid Society of Columbus and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services have created a new “Virtual Clinic” model, which engages our volunteer lawyers in phone advice clinics. In direct response to the expansion of Unemployment Compensation program, we are also launching a special Virtual Unemployment Compensation Clinic to organize volunteers to help individuals who are struggling to apply for unemployment compensation. Training and Resources: Volunteers can note when they are available to help, which areas of law they feel comfortable handling, and whether they need additional training. For the general virtual clinics, LASC/SEOLS has a recorded training for volunteer lawyers focused on typical brief advice clinic issues, along with a comprehensive Attorney Toolkit that volunteers can access. We are also compiling all relevant court orders and policy changes that volunteers may need to be aware of prior to speaking to the clients. For Unemployment specifically, a recorded training and volunteer toolkit is available. No experience is required!

 

Process: Clients are scheduled for clinic slots that align with volunteer availability and are told that they should expect a call during that window of time and that the call might be restricted or blocked (if volunteers are calling from cell phones) Prior to the clinic time, LASC/SEOLS Pro Bono Team staff will match clients with volunteers via a virtual referral email, which will include the client’s intake and contact information, contact information for our staff attorney mentor who is “on call” for the clinic, and a link to a case reporting form that we will ask the volunteer to complete after the consultation. If calling from a personal cell phone, we recommend blocking your number by dialing *67 before the client’s number. Pro Bono Program Generally: LASC/SEOLS supplies primary malpractice coverage for all volunteers, training resources, and access to attorney mentors. You can accrue one hour of general CLE for every six hours you volunteer, up to a total of six CLE hours per reporting period. Emeritus and Corporate Status also are also eligible to and encouraged to volunteer.

Process: Clients are scheduled for clinic slots that align with volunteer availability and are told that they should expect a call during that window of time and that the call might be restricted or blocked (if volunteers are calling from cell phones) Prior to the clinic time, LASC/SEOLS Pro Bono Team staff will match clients with volunteers via a virtual referral email, which will include the client’s intake and contact information, contact information for our staff attorney mentor who is “on call” for the clinic, and a link to a case reporting form that we will ask the volunteer to complete after the consultation. If calling from a personal cell phone, we recommend blocking your number by dialing *67 before the client’s number. We also recommend that the Unemployment Project volunteers have computer access so that they can help complete an online application if necessary.

 

Pro Bono Program Generally: LASC/SEOLS supplies primary malpractice coverage for all volunteers, training resources, and access to attorney mentors. You can accrue one hour of general CLE for every six hours you volunteer, up to a total of six CLE hours per reporting period. Emeritus and Corporate Status also are also eligible to and encouraged to volunteer.

Central Community House and Village Central are seeking community volunteers to help senior citizens be active and healthy while continuing to live in their own homes and neighborhoods. Volunteers will help meet individual needs of seniors living in the near east and south side neighborhoods of Columbus. There are many ways you can make a difference in a senior's life. Some typical tasks may include:

Volunteer: Anti-Human Trafficking Meal Volunteers

The Salvation Army’s provides a drop-in center for trafficked women called The Well. Held each Tuesday from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, The Well supports the healing and recovery of participants through a healthy meal, trauma therapy groups, Bible study, empowerment programming and social enterprise activities. Female volunteers can engage by providing the meal, leading empowerment programming and/or assisting with the social enterprise activities.

The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers that are open to providing a meal for this program. Meal is 2pm-3pm. We ask that volunteers arrive by 1:50 if the meal is already prepared, if not they need to arrive by 1pm to prepare the meal. We do ask that volunteers clean the kitchen once they are finished preparing the meal.  

Serving 20-30 women weekly.

We ask that volunteers sign up for complete meals, i.e. pasta, salad and bread, or potato bar. Please include ALL ingredients . Frozen meals are also acceptable, if are unable to stay and serve but want to volunteer.
