Since 1976, AACS has led efforts to empower and develop the local Asian community through its expansive and proactive programs and services. Our mission is to improve the well-being and quality of life of Asian Americans and Asian immigrant families in Ohio by providing social services and empowering individuals through education, training and leadership.

What We Do

Asian American Community Services (AACS) is a non-profit community-based organization whose mission is to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for Asians in Central Ohio by providing social services and empowering Asians through education and training to overcome cultural and language barriers. The organization was founded in 1976 when four professors at The Ohio State University recognized a need for medical interpretation services for the growing population of Asian immigrants. The initial provision of pro bono medical interpretation services soon grew into a free medical clinic. As the population evolved, so did AACS’ programs and services. Today, AACS’ programs fall under the umbrella of four overarching departments including: Youth and Family, which encompasses Healthy Asian Youth, an afterschool and summer program that provides tutoring, mentorship, leadership training, and other educational services to students in grades K-12; Cambodian and Korean Senior Services; and case management for victims of crime (including domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking); Health Care and Prevention, which includes the Asian Health Initiative, a free weekly health clinic; Hepatitis B education, prevention, and screening Community Education, including multilevel ESL courses, computer literacy education, quilting groups, Ikebana classes, and Nurturing Parenting curriculum; and Interpretation and Translation, which provides 24/7 expert interpreters for the Asian Community, including public and private agencies.
